It could have been worse… But the crack in my thumb certainly hasn’t come at the perfect time.
I have a small fracture in the joint of my thumb, but if there had of been a second crack it would have put me out for 6-8 weeks and my Indian tour hopes in doubt. Instead at this stage I am planning to get back in the nets later this week for light hit. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll get to play in the Tour games but I'll be right for the first Test.
Mitch Johnson was the perpetrator for the incident after bowling me a very nasty rising delivery in the WACA nets. When it first hit I knew I’d broken it straight away and was just praying that the scans wouldn’t be too bad. At least Mitch apologised... very nice of him.
I’m really excited for the Tour of India – as an opening batsman I think it will be a great place to play Test cricket. Generally the best time to bat is while the ball is new, so hopefully I can cash in on that. I’ve played a lot of short form cricket on the sub-continent but this will be the first Test I will have played there. A challenge I have been wanting for some time!
As I'm expecting to be away for much of the year, I held a small party for family and friends while I was in Sydney for T20 Big Bash. There were plenty of cheesy old school tunes being played and I've never seen my Dad Howard sing so loud. I think mum was a bit embarrassed. Even my nephew got into the spirit and busted a few moves to Gangnam style. That was where I actually got the idea from to maybe do the dance if I got to 100 against Sri Lanka. Suspiciously, I finished on 90-odd.
I’ve got a couple of big congratulations to dish out. Firstly to Michael Clarke for winning the AB Medal. Was thoroughly deserved and hopefully if he can produce another year like he did in 2012 the rest of us can contribute more around him and we’ll have a successful year.
Also a big shout out to the Baltimore Ravens for winning the Superbowl. Since I’ve been a kid I’ve always followed them (not sure why). So on Monday I was cheering them on. Beyonce wasn’t bad at half-time either!
I’m also pleased to announce that I have new sponsor on board – Nokia. They have been nice enough to sort me out with a new Lumia 920 – and I’m enjoying it so far. I did an interview with them as well which you can watch above.
Anyway that’s all from me now.
Until next time Dave
